JOPLIN-TWO MONTHS LATER

The past couple of weeks, I have spent time in an area that we called home for approximately 16 years. Ron and I made our first home together just a few miles from here.

This is Joplin High School. Notice that most of the letters in "Joplin" are missing, but someone used tape to remind us that there is always "Hope".

There are flags everywhere and it reminds me that people still take care of each other.

This is a bit further down the same street. Most of the street signs are gone, so there are street names painted on the traffic lights and pavement in some areas.

This sign says a lot to me...

About a block over from the sign above were two groups of people. Each group was there to begin the rebuilding of some one's home. As you can see, the foundation was all that remained... but then, that is a good place to start!

The trees that are left, have begun to sprout new leaves.

Across the street from the fireplace shown above, was a "safe room" still standing.

The tops of the culverts had blown off. Thankfully, someone put plywood over the holes to prevent anyone from falling into them.

In the same area as the baby crib, but looking a different direction down 20th Street.

What appears to be a little girl's pink sleeping bag near the ground and other bedding in the top of the tree.

Near the High School; food and drink for those in need. Several of the marquees in town also say "free food and drink".

When life seems completely askew, with no hope in sight, sometimes if we will move our focus,

we will see that in spite of the thorns, there is promise of a new beginning. Maybe not quite like we had hoped or planned, but a new beginning non the less.

On the hill above St. John's hospital, where our younger daughter was born, there was another flag at the base of a sturdy tree.

On Rangeline, the main thoroughfare North and South near Walmart. Someone had probably had lunch at this table not too long before the storm.

I spoke to a young lady this morning who, along with her husband and young children, were near the Walmart store when the tornado hit. They had just arrived when they saw the wall cloud coming. Thankfully, there was a man in the nearby apartment complex standing in his doorway and allowed them in to take cover.

In the midst of the rubble, there are signs of hope and rebuilding, everywhere.

Near Walmart, was a Dollar Tree store. The same young lady that I spoke of earlier thought that some of her family was in this store when the tornado hit. Thankfully, they were not still there, but had gone to a family member's house, nearby.

I looked at this pole with debris wrapped around it a dozen times or more in wonder at the force that could do such a thing.

VALERIE & BRET'S WEDDING

This past weekend, we had the honor of telling a very special story.

Valerie and Bret originally planned to be married on August 13,

but approximately 30 minutes after Val picked up her dress,

Bret called to tell her that he was being deployed.

As a result, the wedding was moved to April 30.

All of her hard work and planning came together beautifully!

It takes a very special person to be involved in hospice at every level.

One, among many, of her favorite things is supporting her AR Razorbacks!

Awards and honors attributed to Ms Weems are Arkansas Club Woman of the Year,
GFWC of Arkansas (2000),
Arkansas Home Economics Teacher of the Year, State Department of Education (1983),
Teacher of the Year, Hazen Chamber of Commerce (1983).

She has a number of affiliations including

President, Prairie County Federation of Democratic Women;
50-Year Member, Order of the Eastern Star.

Representative of her heart for people and service, Ms. Weems is a

JOIE & BRIAN'S WEDDING

Theater plays a huge part in Joie and Brian's life, so it was only fitting that their wedding had a vintage theme.

Set in the late '30's early '40's era, they chose Wartrace Bethsalem Community Chapel in Watrace, TN to exchange their vows.

Joie's dress had a vintage flair with fabric covered buttons.
Jessica, first born of the 3 sisters, Joie being the youngest.

The chapel had beautiful stained glass windows, allowing beautiful light, but nothing compared to the beauty of the bride. Our Amber and Joie have been friends since they were four years old. They grew up dreaming of this special day and it grips my heart thinking about the Godly young women they have grown into.

I have the best "Santas" in the world! I love anything tropical! My favorite vacation is the ocean. We have been working the past few years to transform our backyard into an oasis for the times we cannot get away to the beach. The last time both girls got to be home at the same time, they and Ron went Christmas shopping for me. Natalie was planning to come home on Sunday of this week to see the Christmas program and for us to have our celebration together. The blizzard in the northeast changed those plans.

Well, today was to be the day that "mom's" gift would be delivered! As you can see, they certainly surprised me...

I love the new addition to our tropical oasis! Thank you Ron and Girls!

FAMILY PORTRAIT MONTH/DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS

October is off to a busy start and we are celebrating families! It is Family Portrait Month and also Domestic Violence Awareness Month. We have adopted the Women's Shelter of Central Arkansas to help them give aid to women and children in need. Families that book with us this month will have the opportunity to partner with us in support of this much needed organization. Each family will have the opportunity to purchase personalized note cards. Each bi-fold card will have a family image on the front and information for the Women's Shelter of Arkansas on the back. Proceeds for each set of cards will go directly to the shelter.

We see the family as a safe haven for each member; we also know that that is not true for every family. This is an opportunity to help those that do not have a safe haven and allow them to begin building a more positive legacy. We look forward to working with each of you in support of families in our community!

One of our favorite families in the world. The Trubianos are a family that gives even more than a good number of us...they serve our country in the military. Thank you to these sweet friends and to all of those that serve to preserve our freedom!

The Millers are co-owners of 24/7 Fitness, with two local locations. One on Salem and and one at the Meadowlake Shopping Center on the corner of Meadowlake and North Donaghey. When Tori said that she wanted to do family portraits, but did not want to do the traditional ones, I said absolutely! We met at her parents house and had a blast! This is a precious family and twins, Miles and Avery were the icing on the cake!

Miles and Avery needed a bit of play time every now and then...we like to make the whole session, playtime!

This year's Arkansas Democrat Gazette's Fall Bridal Fair was the largest to date with over 1,300 in attendance! We visited with so many brides we lost count! 4 GENERATIONS OF LOVE

A few weeks ago we got a call from our pastor in Missouri to do a 4 generation picture of his family. His dad would be in town from Florida and Mike would be in town from Arkansas. This is the pastor that introduced us to the Lord and as a result of the relationship we now have with Jesus, we have a place reserved in heaven. So, needless to say, this family has a very special place in our heart.

We met Katie & Craig at the January, AR-Democrat Gazette Bridal Fair in Little Rock. Katie was the winner of the Ultimate Wedding Package give away! We remember hearing her scream for joy when they announced her name! The day proved to be sunny and beautiful. We have not had many of those days so far this spring!

After the gray days and rain we had had all week, Friday turned into a beautiful spring day and what could be more fun than playing with little people until they get tired, then send them home with mom & dad! Brady celebrated his first birthday the end of February and he is celebrating his new found freedom of walking...well actually it is more like a run!

TRAVEL FRIENDS

One never knows what new friends will cross our paths and what a blessing they will be. And who said that air travel was down over the holidays? Well, it wasn't anyone in the airports! Our plan was to fly with Natalie on Christmas morning to come home from NYC, but things didn't happen quite as planned. It took several tries but we finally made a flight. We are people watchers and watching people during the holiday rush can be quite interesting if not entertaining.

One of our flight attendants, Amy from Hawaii! We are now friends on FaceBook and I told her that we want to visit HER home!

As were were people watching...I see Laura, one of Natalie's former roomies. She also was on our flight. It was almost like having family close.

Atlanta...next stop...home...

We love to celebrate birthdays and "someone" has a birthday this week! It doesn't matter to us which day of the month we celebrate because at The Raders, a birthday lasts all month long.

This is a year of milestones for us with both of us turning 50 and then the end of the year bringing 30 years of marriage. We were all four home, an unusual thing these days, so the girls fixed dinner and a cake. When we saw the card, it had BOTH of our names on it as well as Happy Anniversary! I'm thinking, hmmm, what is this all about? When we opened the card, we discovered that our girls had gifted us with a cruise! It was first, shock and then excitement immeasurable!

About a month ago, Taylor came to us after church one Sunday evening and said that she wanted us to photograph her wedding. I said OK, when is it? She answered, "February 5th". And much to my surprise, she meant, in four weeks! Her plan was a simple ceremony with family and a few friends and that is exactly what she beautifully enjoyed. The ceremony took place at the newly renovated Ward Mansion, in Conway. Guest attire was black and white.

When I came to the computer this morning, checking email and thinking about the blessings of the year, I looked out our office window to see this...
...and it reminded me that Peace and Freedom come with a price. I think about the bombings in Mumbai, India the past few days and all of the families that went through a period of time not knowing of the safety of their loved ones, some of those being Americans. The Taj Hotel is the lodging of choice for many American business people, including Delta employees. We were thankful that Natalie was state side yesterday, but not everyone had that blessing. I can't help but be even more thankful that the Lord continues to lavish His grace, mercy and blessings not only on our family, but our country!

On November 19, 1988, then President Ronald Reagan in a radio address, spoke these words “… in America, freedom seems like the air around us: It’s there; it’s sweet, though we rarely give it a thought. Yet as the air fills our lungs, freedom fills our souls. It gives breath to our laughter and joy. It gives voice to our songs. It gives us strength as we race for our dreams. ... Yes, as we gather together this Thanksgiving to ask the Lord’s blessings, as we of whatever faith we are give praises to His name, let us thank Him for our peace, prosperity, and freedom.”

We met Heather for the first time this summer at our "adopted daughter", Chelsey's wedding. Heather was Chelsey's maid of honor. We met again at the bridal fair a few weeks later when Heather was working the booth for Catering Creations out of the Albert Pike and that was the beginning of a fun friendship!

Last weekend, we met at Woolly Hollow State Park because Heather wanted some holiday pictures. This was the first time that we had met Carl, so he didn't really know what to expect, but he was as much fun as Heather, so we had a blast!

Oh, and this is Dixie! She is Heather's pride and joy.

Yesterday morning we met 3 generations of the Meriweather family, for a family session. My understanding is that this had been a request from Judy for some time. So, when Holly saw our ad in the November issue of Women's Inc Magazine, she gave us a call! Little did we know that Saturday would not only bring beautiful sunshine and a crystal blue sky, but cool temps and a wind that made it feel much colder. We would work in the shade then move to the sun to thaw! Everyone had a superb attitude though and we made some beautiful images of some beautiful people.

A little bird told me that some interesting things would be going on at McMaster Physical Therapy Clinic. Some really got into the idea of the a theme. The Grinch showed up and most of Santa's reindeer, but Santa and his elf were missing...oh and the poor little Grinch Dog did his best to keep up...Of the reindeer that showed up, we had (right to left) Dasher, Cupid, Dancer, Comet & Rudolf (middle), then Blitzen (left seated-as in Blitzed) and Vixen (reclining in front)!

Now if the last time you had to have therapy, the physical kind that is, and it wasn't much fun, maybe you should try another clinic! There's no telling who might make an appearance on Thanksgiving!

It wasn't long after I returned home and began working, that I hear the mail truck. My desk just happens to be in the front window and look out to find the wicked witch of the west...literally delivering mail!!! I couldn't resist, I had to have a picture.

It was a fun afternoon and evening...here are a few of our favorites!

Each year, we plan time for education and June of this year was one of those times. We traveled to Nashville, TN ready to soak up as much knowledge and inspiration as a person possibly could. NATALIE-CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA

Recently when Natalie came home after a 9 day journey to the ends of the earth and back...well almost to the end, we loaded some of the pictures that she had taken. Actually the trip was to Cape Town, South Africa with a stop in Dakar, Senegal. There were a lot of fun things to see and hear about, but I narrowed it down to a few that I thought were exceptionally interesting. She was with a senior crew that had been there numerous times before so they knew many interest knowledge of the area was very beneficial. Just in case you wondered just how far it actually is...from NYC that is...

Cape Point is the southern most tip...

...where the cool waters of the Atlantic and the warm waters of the Indian Ocean meet causing waves to "crash" perpendicular to the shore! They do roll into shore, but if you notice in both of these images, they also crest in a way that I had never seen before. Isn't God's creation just amazing?

Both of our girls have always been fascinated with penguins. Maybe because when they were little, when they would get tired, they would sit on the tops of our feet with their back resting against our legs like baby penguins do!Graycen Nudd will appreciate these next two...

Needless to say, this has been one of her favorite rotations. Lots to see and an outstanding crew to share it.

Time passes so quickly that before we can blink, another stage of development has appeared and we must give it credit before it is gone and we have only our memory to trust for preservation! Cole is growing into a dedicated Hog fan under the close direction of mom and daddy but today we took a different direction to show off a bit. First we see the man about town as he catches the eye of the ladies in his play group!
Hands and feet are a must, so while Cole was having a snack, I was busy playing.

A couple of weeks ago when we shot Kyle's senior session, we ended the evening at the bowling alley where Kyle's Vilonia High School team bowls. This brought back fond memories for both Ron and me.

Ron and I met in our 9th grade history class. Ron's family moved to our hometown of Blue Springs, MO that fall. On Saturday mornings, I bowled on a youth league and soon, Ron showed up with a friend. Ron had never bowled before but soon found that he loved it and had quite a talent for bowling. We still have a box of trophies in our attic from those days. Well this fun little activity allowed us to get to know one another and a friendship was forged. In those days, I was quite the wall flower, so to think that it was anything more than a friendship never once crossed my mind. Our paths would cross in the hallway at school, we would meet at the bowling alley during the week sometimes to practice bowl for our league on Saturday then people began asking questions. My answer was always "I don't know what you are talking about, we are friends!" Well, the long story short is, we were more than friends in his mind and he was determined to win me over. I didn't make it easy...

We dated through high school and walked graduation together. He went to work for the railroad the month after we graduated and I had plans for college in the fall. This was the summer of 1977. In July, that same summer, we shopped for an engagement ring, knowing full well that I needed to finish school before we even considered getting married. Well, my junior year, we decided that I was close enough to completion and we planned our wedding for December 1, 1979, Thanksgiving weekend. We didn't honeymoon until summer so that I would not miss a term of school and could finish "on time" with my degree in education.
So, when we walked into the bowling alley here in town, many, many memories came back. Ron and Kyle both bowled a line and I couldn't resist a few pictures of Ron! Somewhere in our image history there are images of this same type from those younger years...that will be a treasure hunt for another day!

On Monday, I was invited to the monthly Aloette Connection where the Aloette beauty consultants of Arkansas gather to celebrate each other's achievements. This is certainly an electric place to be! The energy that is felt when these consultants gather is unmistakable.

It is important to believe that each of us can make a difference in the lives of others if we will give of ourselves.

Each of these consultants do exactly that.
This table full of awards by the end of the evening was all but empty! Everyone had worked hard to place Arkansas in the top rankings in the nation for sales and recruitment.

Dana Davan leads the monthly Connection with an excitement that is so contagious! Her sweet spirit encourages everyone around her. This particular Connection was special to me because our Amber, a new consultant, earned an award in each category except one, including her Aloette table cloth. So the smiles were large and the treasures to take home were accumulating! Dana asked her to tell about her first six weeks as a consultant. Amber is an encourager and true to form, she used this time to not only tell her story, but encourage others as they move forward in their own business.

Among the treasures that she brought home were her table cloth, a portfolio and an insulated cooler, all with the Aloette logo!

It was certainly a fun evening and I would enjoy spending another evening with these energized consultants!

Today, we held the drawing for the free bridal session and our winner was one of the beautiful models for the style show, Eden Ashburn! Eden has beauty that radiates from the inside as well as the outside. We certainly look forward to meeting the rest of her family!

FALL BRIDAL FAIR, LITTLE ROCK

Tomorrow is the Arkansas Democrat Gazette Fall Bridal Fair! Many brides find every vendor they need to complete their perfect wedding under this one roof! It is a joyous time of planning and meeting new friends that will add their own special touch to a day that is dreamed of for a very long time by young ladies.

We are featuring two of our 2008 brides and grooms! The first is Lindsay & Stephen, married in January at the Albert Pike Hotel. That particular day was beautiful but especially cold!
The second is Alicia & Jakob, married in May at Calvary Baptist Church in Morrilton, AR.
Each couple will be available to answer questions about their experience and offer any pointers that might be helpful in the planning process as well their reasons for choosing The Raders as their photography team.

Take a moment to stop by and see us in BOOTH 46-47 between 1:00 and 5:30. There will be a variety of gifts, a cake dive and a style show for your enjoyment throughout the afternoon.

MIAMI

We took a few days to have some fun in the sun together as a family and enjoyed every minute of our first visit to Miami! It had been a few years since we had actually gone away on a vacation with all 4 of us, so this created some new fun memories. Three of us have birthdays in the next few weeks, so this was our birthday celebrations together as well. This was a shot from our balcony to the north our first night... ...and then in the daytime...the water was calm the first several days and no dangerous marine life. But our last day, the waves were crashing and the "jellies" had arrived!

and us! This was our evening for birthday dinners and seafood was on the menu! Oh, if we could only get that kind of seafood at home.

Our last day in FL, we took a drive into the keys and visited Robbie's Marina to feed the tarpon. Ron's brother vacations in the keys each February as a break from the Kansas City winter and is very familiar with Robbie's.
They line up, literally, and watch for you to offer them a fish. It is quite evident that some have learned the trade better than others, or at least for a longer lifetime. If you hold it just right, one of the more experienced will actually jump from the water to get the fish you are holding. If you are not quite quick enough...your hand and arm will go, along with the fish you are holding, into his sharp gullet. I didn't get the picture of that happening, but did get this one as he came out to retrieve his appetizer!

This was a fun finish to a relaxing few days. Our trip home was smooth and quick, thanks again to Delta! Now our favorite airline and travel companion.

After a few days at home, today was initial set up for the bridal fair so, more about that in the next post!

ASHLIE'S BRIDALS

Now that Ashlie & Jonathan's wedding is behind us, it is safe to post a few of Ashlie's bridals! These were some of her favorites, taken at The Peabody Hotel.

And speaking of new additions to a family...Lindsay and Stephen will add to their new family in January, as well! We are excited about the maternity pictures and the newborn session. Congratulations to both of you!

THE PHONE CALLS...

Yesterday afternoon, my cell phone rang and the ring told me that it was Natalie. Before I could get to my phone, Ron's phone began ringing. I answer mine and I hear Ron say as he answers his, "Garrett Nudd, how are you?"

Natalie says, I had some special people on my flight from Denver today. Oh? And who might that be? Garrett & Joy!

Now, what is extra funny about this little story is that Natalie had never met them face to face, she was only familiar with them through us and their blog. She said, I knew that they looked familiar, but I couldn't figure out why. So I just asked them!

Then, come to find out, Garrett and Joy had some similar thoughts...as Natalie would pass by them, they commented, that looks like Renee! So that was the beginning of a bit of fun for each of them. I told Natalie, when you look like your mama, you can't get by with anything...you never know who might be watching!

ASHLIE & JONATHAN'S JULY 4th WEDDING

July 4th dawned with rain and thunder, but as the day wore on, it turned into a beautiful day for a wedding that had taken many months of planning and work. It all came together for a most gorgeous union of families. We began at The Peabody for hair and make-up. The girls on one floor...
...the guys on another...

...and the sky outside looking a bit threatening...
...but no one's mood was to be dampened. It was a glorious day!

The Maid of Honor and bride's maids were ready, Ashlie had her dress in hand and the limo was waiting to take them to the church.

Needless to say, the mirror on the roof made for some fun while making our way across town to Christ the King Catholic Church.
Evan was the ring bearer and we have decided that he has the moves and the attitude to catch any young lady that catches his eye.

Hannah Glover, Wedding Coordinator, pins the Mother of the Bride with her corsage. We met Hannah when we first came to Arkansas. She and our Natalie played softball together. Little did we know then, that our futures would cross again in this manner! Hannah was a joy to work with. Things moved along very smoothly and the decorations beautifully enhanced a sweet atmosphere of love.

After the ceremony, it was back to The Peabody for the reception and fireworks! A gorgeous sunset cast a warm glow over the River View Ballroom.

Hannah made sure that there were fun things for the little people as well as the "big" people!

It was a pleasure to work with DJ Hollywood again! He always creates a splendid atmosphere with his music.
No 4th of July wedding is complete without sparklers!

Thank you Ashlie & Jonathan for including us in this wonderful year leading up to this very special day! We have loved every minute of it and pray God's richest blessing on you and your future family.

Keith & Jennifer

Yesterday was a wedding that had been in the planning for more than a year. There were family members coming from many places but this portion of the family was here from the grand state of Texas. We had not met Keith & Jennifer before Thursday, but we had talked on the phone a few times. Keith is Ashlie's dad (our 4th of July bride) and they were here to give this precious girl to her groom. It had been quite some time since they had had images made together and liked Ashlie & Jonathan's engagements, so we made plans to take some time before the rehearsal on Thursday to have some fun. And FUN, we did have! They were staying at The Peabody Hotel in Little Rock, so we began there...
...then we moved to Riverfront Park planning to play in the water with the temps reaching into the upper 90's, but found a tunnel to play in instead!

Thank you Jennifer & Keith for trusting the special task to us. It was a pleasure and we are glad to be able to call you friends!

COLE ALEXANDER-NEWBORN

Welcome to the world Cole! On Wednesday this week, Cole celebrated being 20 days old. He may not have thought that it was much of a celebration, but those of us who are more than 20 days old, know just how precious a new life is and we celebrated for him! We went to his home, explored his room and toys and discovered that he is already a Razorback fan.

Little feet that will walk in mighty places someday...

...and hands that will share love and joy with others...
